Martha Washington Hotel and Marta with Selldorf Architects

New York, NY
Completed - 2014
30,000 sqft
Type: Hospitality
Role: Sara Lopergolo (Design Partner, Selldorf Architects)
The Martha Washington, an iconic Manhattan hotel since 1903, has been modernized. The landmarked façade was restored, and key public spaces, including a restaurant and lounge, were redesigned to create a vibrant local hub.

Marta, a new Roman-style pizzeria, is the focal point with tiled pizza ovens and a pizza bar. The interiors blend turn-of-the-century grandeur with modern elements like tall ceilings. A unified design palette features blue cement tile floors, white fluted columns, and walnut millwork, while custom-designed furnishings and fixtures enhance the contemporary ambiance.
