1000 Dean Street

Brooklyn, NY
Completed - 2014
9,000 sqft
Type: Hospitality
Role: Sara Lopergolo (Design Partner, Selldorf Architects)

This historic Studebaker service station underwent renovation and repurposing into office and studio space for Brooklyn's creative community. Originally built in the 1920s, the 155,000 sq ft structure required a complete exterior and interior overhaul.

The four-story building was transformed by introducing two 8’ x 92’ skylights, bringing daylight to the deep floor plates. The raw industrial spirit was preserved and updated with modern mechanical systems, IT infrastructure, a central circulation core (including an elevator and connecting stair), and rooftop photovoltaic panels.
